Thankful Tree

Thankful Tree

This is something new we are trying this year. It wasn’t planned but I think it will be fun. We bought a 12 foot tree Christmas tree for our living room finally, after 5 years of looking at them, because it was a good deal. This was mid October. When it came we had to set it up to see if we like it. Ya know, the fullness of it, if the lights were evenly spaced, the color, if it leads to much, etc. We decided we liked the tree then we got sick, had a lot going on, and just got busy and never took the tree down, because it’s no easy task to take it down. It’s now November and I have just accepted the tree will be there til after Christmas. It looks so sad not being decorated though, but I refuse to put up Christmas decor yet so I came up with an idea. I will turn it into a Thankful Tree.

If you look on pinterest for “thankful tree”, they are usually done with bare branches, not a pine tree, and maybe we will do that next year, but for now, we have a Pine Tree. So, what’s the plan you ask? Here it is in steps.

Step 1: Decorate Pine Tree (I can’t call it a Christmas tree yet) with Burlap Ribbon and Fall “ornaments”

Burlap seemed like a safe bet to make it look more fall oriented and if i find some cute cheap pumpkins and orange berry stems I’ll throw those in. Of course my littlest wanted to “help”. I’m getting pretty good at doing things one handed.

Step 2: Print and Make Thankful Tags

I made these real quick and printed a bunch. I cut them out, hole punched the corner and added a string so they could be hung on the tree. These are our fall ornaments.

Step 3: Hang a Thankful Card Everyday

The kids have really enjoyed writing what they are thankful for each night. Those that can’t write yet, draw a picture or me or my husband write what they tell us. It’s nice to go to bed with a thankful heart.

Step 4: Read all the Thankful Cards on Thanksgiving Day

I will update this post after Thanksgiving to let you all know how it went and If we will do it again next year, but with branches, not a pine tree, maybe.
